Hey Kristin! I am reading a biography of Sigrid Undset, and a quote from her reminded me of your Substack. You may have heard it before, but I’ll share: in an essay about poems by D.H. Lawrence, Undset judged them as “a perfect expression of man’s primeval instinct for picturing his own spiritual life through flowers and tortoises and mountains and heraldic figures — through anything non-human”
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for sharing this, Ann!! That is so resonant (and I've not read it before...in fact, I've not read *any* of Sigrid's work, though she's on my to-read list!) I'm jotting this into my notebook to hold onto. :)
Completely agree with the ancestors on the timing of summer. Here we went from winter to summer in a week, missing spring entirely. Happy summer to you!
I’d never thought about the space between the Ascension and Pentecost - but that is such an apt way to pray into the here-and-at-hand nature of May in a temperate climate.
I learn sooooo much from you all at Signs + Seasons--thank you for this inspiring and beautiful round up and the vintage illustrations. Perfect!
Aren’t those illustrations sweet?! Thanks so much, Jody :)

Happy summer to you, too! My poor husband has heard me rattle off about modern seasonal reckonings so many times to anyone who will listen. 😂

It reminds me a bit of Holy Saturday!
